Filter conditions

Filter conditions allow you to view the same board in multiple ways and easily sort and categorize your data in Stitchflow.

Overview

Board editors have access to apply and remove filter conditions; dashboard viewers have the ability to view applied filter conditions, but cannot edit conditions or view unfiltered data on a shared dashboard.

Filter conditions let you refine board and data based on the conditions you set. When data is filtered based on a condition, it's hidden from the view you're looking at but not deleted. You can use filter conditions when:

  • You're trying to find data that meets conditions quickly

  • You only need to focus on data that meet certain conditions

  • You want to prevent users from seeing specific data when sharing a board

A filter condition consists of three parts:

  1. Field - Any field on your board you want to evaluate

  2. Operator - How a field compares to a value(s)

  3. Value - What you compare all of your data against

When you add a filter condition, users with existing access or anyone you share the board with will see the filters applied. Anyone with permission to edit your board will be able to change the filters.

Apply filter conditions

You can apply filter conditions on any board you have created or can edit. Click the Filters button to open the filters menu and select a field.

There is no limit to the number of filter conditions you can apply on a board.

Fields

Any field that has been added and is visible on your board will be available in the filters menu. Additional fields that have been joined with the primary field will also be available as nested fields. While you can't add nested fields to a board directly, you can filter by them to find data that meets specific conditions.

Operators

When you add a filter condition, it'll open a panel that sits above your board. After selecting a field, you'll be prompted to select an operator from a pre-populated dropdown menu. Field types determine which filter operators are available. For example, array fields will have operators like "includes," string fields will have operators like "is empty" or "does not contain"; date fields will have operators like "is after" or "is before"; number fields will have operators like "is greater than" or "is less than or equal to."

After selecting your field and operator, you can choose one or multiple values. If you select multiple values in a condition, operators will update to include all (e.g. includes all of).

Note that operators "is empty" and "is not empty" do not require you to input a value because the default value is empty.

Values

The operator selection dictates the value. If you select is as the operator in your filter condition, you can select one or more values from a menu as the expected value. If you select contains, you can enter a search string to determine if the condition meets that criteria.

String operators like "contains" and "does not contain" are not case sensitive.

Conjunctions

On any dashboard, you're likely going to use a combination of conditions to filter through data. To logically connect your filter conditions, you can use conjunctions. The two conjunctions available are:

  1. Include results that match all filters - when you want all applied conditions met

  2. Include results that match any filter - when you want any applied condition met

You can remove a filter condition from a dashboard by clicking on the X next to that filter.
